▸ ‘ & Mr. Miyagi ;

So, the other was a smoker, too? That was a relief. Miyagi didn’t feel so guilty of indulging anymore; although, there was always the occasional stranger who came by with their lip curled at the stench of cigarette smoke. Not that a non-smoker’s bitterness was going to make Miyagi quit any time soon, it was just nice to be able to converse with another addict.

Receiving the generous compliment about his “skill”, Miyagi blinked, before the entirety of expression quickly dissolved into that of a modest one. “Ah ─ ha ha,” He waved a hand about in the air. “There’s no need for applause, I assure you. It’s not a very uncommon job. I appreciate what you said all the same.”

Tapping out more ashes, he nodded as Takano continued.

“Sounds like my students,” He commented offhandedly, grinning a little. “They’re generally mature enough, but mention deadlines to them and they run around the room like they’ve lost their heads. S’bit chaotic, really.”

He looked up from his table, eyes settling upon the other male. “You have an artist you prefer, by chance?”

Smoke slowly filled Takano’s lungs–intoxicating the editor with enough bliss to last him another hour. Nicotine kept the man going as he worked his way through the day with only five hours of sleep, and he wouldn’t stop for any onlookers who were DISGUSTED by the scent; nevertheless, he took comfort with the shared habit and continued to fill himself with the delicacy.

A brow quirked as the professor brushed off his praise towards him–chuckling slightly at the sudden modesty. Though it was a common response for compliments, Takano couldn’t take the other as someone who would shy away from words that meant little to nothing. Taking another hit of the cigarette, the editor placed the pads of his fingers onto the white wrapping–prying it away from his lips to tap away the debris. Brown eyes glanced back up at the professor before the man could speak,

“Modest, are we? Being a professor
takes more than what most give it
credit for. I wouldn’t be able to stand
college kids for a long time, despite
being one at some point in life.”

A curt laugh made it’s way past his lips as he brought the cigarette back to his mouth–teeth clenching around the end. As much as he would like to AVOID comparing his artist to students, Takano couldn’t deny that the similarities are KEEN.

“I hate to admit it, but you just
                                described my mangakas. They
                                despise the word ‘DEADLINE
                                and avoid all responsibility until
                                               the last day.”

The sudden question caused the editor to silence himself–taking a moment to gather his thoughts before glancing down at his book.

“Hm, an artist that I like to
work with, or an artist that
                                                I like to read?”
